והוה בשנת תלת להושע בר אלה מלכא דישראל מלך חזקיה בר אחז מלך שבטא דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk akhz br khzqyh mlk dyshral mlka alh br lhwshe thlth bshnth whwh
Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

בר עסרין וחמש שנין הוה כד מלך ועסרין ותשע שנין מלך בירושלם ושום אמיה אבי בת זכריה:
zkryh bth aby amyh wshwm byrwshlm mlk shnyn wthshe wesryn mlk kd hwh shnyn wkhmsh esryn br
He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.

ועבד דכשר קדם יי ככל דעבד דוד אבוהי:
abwhy dwd debd kkl yy qdm dkshr webd
He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, according to all that David his father had done.

הוא אעדי ית במתא ותבר ית קמתא וקץ ית אשירתא ופסיק ית חויא דנחשא דעבד משה ארי עד יומיא האינון הוו בני ישראל מסקין בוסמין ליה והוו קרן ליה נחושתן:
nkhwshthn lyh qrn whww lyh bwsmyn msqyn yshral bny hww haynwn ywmya ed ary mshh debd dnkhsha khwya yth wpsyq ashyrtha yth wqts qmtha yth wthbr bmtha yth aedy hwa
He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.

במימרא דיי אלהא דישראל אתרחיץ ובתרוהי לא הוה כותיה בכל מלכיא דבית יהודה ודהוו קדמוהי:
qdmwhy wdhww yhwdh dbyth mlkya bkl kwthyh hwh la wbthrwhy athrkhyts dyshral alha dyy bmymra
He trusted in Yahweh, the God of Israel, so that after him was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.

ואדבק בדחלתא דיי לא סטא מבתר פולחניה ונטר פקודוהי דפקיד יי ית משה:
mshh yth yy dpqyd pqwdwhy wnTr pwlkhnyh mbthr sTa la dyy bdkhltha wadbq
For he joined with Yahweh. He didn’t depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which Yahweh commanded Moses.

והוה מימרא דיי בסעדיה בכל אתר דנפק מצלח ומריד במלכא דאתור ולא פלחיה:
plkhyh wla dathwr bmlka wmryd mtslkh dnpq athr bkl bsedyh dyy mymra whwh
Yahweh was with him. Wherever he went, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and didn’t serve him.

הוא קטל ית פלשתאי עד עזה וית תחומהא ממגדל תקוף עד קירוין כריכן:
krykn qyrwyn ed thqwp mmgdl thkhwmha wyth ezh ed plshthay yth qTl hwa
He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

והוה בשתא רביעיתא למלכא חזקיה היא שתא שביעיתא להושע בר אלה מלכא דישראל סליק שלמנאסר מלכא דאתור על שמרון וצר עלה:
elh wtsr shmrwn el dathwr mlka shlmnasr slyq dyshral mlka alh br lhwshe shbyeytha shtha hya khzqyh lmlka rbyeytha bshtha whwh
In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it.

וכבשוה מסוף תלת שנין בשנת שית לחזקיהו היא שנת תשע להושע מלכא דישראל אתכבישת שמרון:
shmrwn athkbyshth dyshral mlka lhwshe thshe shnth hya lkhzqyhw shyth bshnth shnyn thlth mswp wkbshwh
At the end of three years they took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

ואגלי מלכא דאתור ית ישראל לאתור ואשרינון בחלח ובחבור נהר גוזן וקירוי מדי:
mdy wqyrwy gwzn nhr wbkhbwr bkhlkh washrynwn lathwr yshral yth dathwr mlka wagly
The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

על דלא קבילו למימר דיי אלההון ועבדו ית קימיה ית כל דפקיד משה עבדא דיי ולא קבילו למימריה ולא עבדו רעותיה:
rewthyh ebdw wla lmymryh qbylw wla dyy ebda mshh dpqyd kl yth qymyh yth webdw alhhwn dyy lmymr qbylw dla el
because they didn’t obey Yahweh their God’s voice, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, and would not hear it or do it.

ובארבע עשרי שנין למלכא חזקיה סליק סנחריב מלכא דאתור על כל קירויא דבית יהודה כריכתא ואחדינון:
wakhdynwn kryktha yhwdh dbyth qyrwya kl el dathwr mlka snkhryb slyq khzqyh lmlka shnyn eshry wbarbe
Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

ושלח חזקיה מלך שבטא דבית יהודה לות מלכא דאתור ללכיש למימר חבית אסתלק מני ית דתרמי עלי אקבל ורמא מלכא דאתור על חזקיה מלך שבטא דבית יהודה תלת מאה ככרין דכסף ותלתין ככרין דדהבא:
ddhba kkryn wthlthyn dksp kkryn mah thlth yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk khzqyh el dathwr mlka wrma aqbl ely dthrmy yth mny asthlq khbyth lmymr llkysh dathwr mlka lwth yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk khzqyh wshlkh
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

ויהב חזקיה ית כל כספא דאשתכח בית מקדשא דיי ובגנזי בית מלכא:
mlka byth wbgnzy dyy mqdsha byth dashthkkh kspa kl yth khzqyh wyhb
Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in Yahweh’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house.

בעדנא ההיא קליף חזקיה ית דשי היכלא דיי וית סקופיא דחפי חזקיה מלך שבטא דבית יהודה ויהבינון למלכא דאתור:
dathwr lmlka wyhbynwn yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk khzqyh dkhpy sqwpya wyth dyy hykla dshy yth khzqyh qlyp hhya bedna
At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of Yahweh’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

ושלח מלכא דאתור ית תרתן וית רב סריס וית רבשקה מן לכיש לות מלכא חזקיה במשרין סגיאן לירושלם וסליקו ואתו לירושלם וסליקו ואתו וקמו במזיקת בריכתא עליתא די בכיבש חקל משטח קצריא:
qtsrya mshTkh khql bkybsh dy elytha bryktha bmzyqth wqmw wathw wslyqw lyrwshlm wathw wslyqw lyrwshlm sgyan bmshryn khzqyh mlka lwth lkysh mn rbshqh wyth srys rb wyth thrthn yth dathwr mlka wshlkh
The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

וקרו למלכא ונפק לותהון אליקים בר חלקיה דממנא על ביתא ושבנא ספרא ויואח בר אסף דממנא על דכרניא:
dkrnya el dmmna asp br wywakh spra wshbna bytha el dmmna khlqyh br alyqym lwthhwn wnpq lmlka wqrw
When they had called to the king, Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder came out to them.

ואמר להון רבשקה אמרו כען לחזקיה כדנן אמר מלכא דרבתנא מלכא דאתור מא רוחצנא הדין דאתרחיצתא:
dathrkhytstha hdyn rwkhtsna ma dathwr mlka drbthna mlka amr kdnn lkhzqyh ken amrw rbshqh lhwn wamr
Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “What confidence is this in which you trust?

אמרת ברם במלל ספון במילך וגבורה אעביד קרבא כען על מן אתרחיצתא ארי מרידתא בי:
by mrydtha ary athrkhytstha mn el ken qrba aebyd wgbwrh bmylk spwn bmll brm amrth
You say (but they are but vain words), ‘There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?

כען הא אתרחיצתא לך על סמך קניא רעיעא הדין על מצרים דאם יסתמיך גברא עלוהי ויעול בידיה ויבזעיניה כן פרעה מלכא דמצרים לכל דמתרחצין עלוהי:
elwhy dmthrkhtsyn lkl dmtsrym mlka preh kn wybzeynyh bydyh wyewl elwhy gbra ysthmyk dam mtsrym el hdyn reyea qnya smk el lk athrkhytstha ha ken
Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

וארי תימרון לי על מימרא דיי אלהנא אתרחיצנא הלא הוא דאעדי חזקיה ית במתוהי וית מדבחוהי ואמר לאנש יהודה וליתבי ירושלם קדם מדבחא הדין תסגדון בירושלם:
byrwshlm thsgdwn hdyn mdbkha qdm yrwshlm wlythby yhwdh lansh wamr mdbkhwhy wyth bmthwhy yth khzqyh daedy hwa hla athrkhytsna alhna dyy mymra el ly thymrwn wary
But if you tell me, ‘We trust in Yahweh our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?

וכען אתערב כען עם רבוני עם מלכא דאתור ואתן לך תרין אלפין סוסון אם תכול למנאה לך רכיבין עליהון:
elyhwn rkybyn lk lmnah thkwl am swswn alpyn thryn lk wathn dathwr mlka em rbwny em ken atherb wken
Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

ואיכדין את מדמי לאתבא ית אפי חד משלטוני עבדי רבוני זעיריא ואתרחיצת לך על מצראי לרתיכין ולפרשין:
wlprshyn lrthykyn mtsray el lk wathrkhytsth zeyrya rbwny ebdy mshlTwny khd apy yth lathba mdmy ath waykdyn
How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

כען הבר ממימרא דיי סליקית על אתרא הדין לחבלותה יי אמר לי סק לאתרא הדין וחבלינה:
wkhblynh hdyn lathra sq ly amr yy lkhblwthh hdyn athra el slyqyth dyy mmymra hbr ken
Have I now come up without Yahweh against this place to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”

ואמר אליקים בר חלקיה ושבנה ויואח לרבשקה מלל כען עם עבדך ארמית ארי שמעין אנחנא ולא תמליל עמנא יהודית קדם עמא דעל שורא:
shwra del ema qdm yhwdyth emna thmlyl wla ankhna shmeyn ary armyth ebdk em ken mll lrbshqh wywakh wshbnh khlqyh br alyqym wamr
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. Don’t speak with us in the Jews’ language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”

ואמר להון רבשקה העל רבונך ועלך שלחני רבוני למללא ית כל פתגמיא האלין הלא על גבריא דיתבין על שורא למיכל ית מפקתהון ולמשתי ית מימי רגליהון בצירא עמכון:
emkwn btsyra rglyhwn mymy yth wlmshthy mpqthhwn yth lmykl shwra el dythbyn gbrya el hla halyn pthgmya kl yth lmlla rbwny shlkhny welk rbwnk hel rbshqh lhwn wamr
But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”

וקם רבשקה וקרא בקל רב יהודית ומליל ואמר שמעו פתגמא דמלכא דרבתנא מלכא דאתור:
dathwr mlka drbthna dmlka pthgma shmew wamr wmlyl yhwdyth rb bql wqra rbshqh wqm
Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.

כדנן אמר מלכא לא יטעי יתכון חזקיה ארי לא יכול לשיזבא יתכון מן ידיה:
ydyh mn ythkwn lshyzba ykwl la ary khzqyh ythkwn yTey la mlka amr kdnn
The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.
30
ולא ירחיץ יתכון חזקיה על מימרא דיי למימר שיזבא ישיזביננא יי ולא תתמסר קרתא הדא ביד מלכא דאתור:
dathwr mlka byd hda qrtha ththmsr wla yy yshyzbynna shyzba lmymr dyy mymra el khzqyh ythkwn yrkhyts wla
Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
31
לא תקבלון מן חזקיה ארי כדנן אמר מלכא דאתור עבידו עמי שלמא ופוקו לותי ואכלו גבר פרי גופניה וגבר פרי תינוהי ושתו גבר מי גוביה:
gwbyh my gbr wshthw thynwhy pry wgbr gwpnyh pry gbr waklw lwthy wpwqw shlma emy ebydw dathwr mlka amr kdnn ary khzqyh mn thqblwn la
Don’t listen to Hezekiah.’ For the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat from his own vine, and everyone from his own fig tree, and everyone drink water from his own cistern;

עד מיתי ואדבר יתכון לארעא טבא כארעכון ארעא עבור וחמר ארעא חקלין וכרמין ארעא דזיתהא עבדין משחא והיא עבדא דבש וחיון ולא תמותון ולא תקבלון מן חזקיה ארי יטעי יתכון למימר יי ישיזביננא:
yshyzbynna yy lmymr ythkwn yTey ary khzqyh mn thqblwn wla thmwthwn wla wkhywn dbsh ebda whya mshkha ebdyn dzythha area wkrmyn khqlyn area wkhmr ebwr area karekwn Tba larea ythkwn wadbr mythy ed
until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live and not die. Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.”
33
השיזבא שיזיבא דחלת עממיא גבר ית ארעיה מיד מלכא דאתור:
dathwr mlka myd areyh yth gbr emmya dkhlth shyzyba hshyzba
Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

אן דחלת חמת וארפד ואן דחלת ספרוים הלא טלטילונון ואגליאונון ארי שיזבו ית שמרון מן ידי:
ydy mn shmrwn yth shyzbw ary waglyawnwn TlTylwnwn hla sprwym dkhlth wan warpd khmth dkhlth an
Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
35
מן בכל דחלת מדינתא דשיזיבו ית ארעהון מן ידי ארי ישיזיב יי ית ירושלם מן ידי:
ydy mn yrwshlm yth yy yshyzyb ary ydy mn arehwn yth dshyzybw mdyntha dkhlth bkl mn
Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
36
ושתיקו עמא ולא אתיבו יתיה פתגמא ארי תפקידת מלכא היא למימר לא תתיבוניה:
ththybwnyh la lmymr hya mlka thpqydth ary pthgma ythyh athybw wla ema wshthyqw
But the people stayed quiet, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”

ואתא אליקים בר חלקיה דממנא על ביתא ושבנא ספרא ויואח בר אסף דממנא על דכרניא לות חזקיהו מבזעין לבושיהון וחויאו ליה ית פתגמי רבשקה:
rbshqh pthgmy yth lyh wkhwyaw lbwshyhwn mbzeyn khzqyhw lwth dkrnya el dmmna asp br wywakh spra wshbna bytha el dmmna khlqyh br alyqym watha
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him Rabshakeh’s words.
